The eighteenth Ceremony of the Thesis Prizes of the Société de Biologie de Strasbourg was held on Thursday March 23rd, 2017, in the amphitheater of the Collège Doctoral Européen (Campus de l’Esplanade) as part of the ED Days of the Doctoral School of Life Sciences and Health of the University of Strasbourg. The Ceremony began with the speeches of the President of the Société de Biologie de Strasbourg, Dr. Christophe Romier, the representative of the university, Professor Veronique Bulach, and representatives of the sponsors of the Thesis Prizes: Dr. Alice Couégnas, director of the Foundation University of Strasbourg, Dr. Nicolas Matt, vice-president of the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Dr. Eric Quéméneur, deputy director general of Transgene, and Professor Catherine Schuster, vice-director of the Doctoral School of Life Sciences and Health.
The plenary lecture of the Ceremony was given by Professor Christian Debry, head of the ORL and cervico-facial surgery department of the University Hospitals of Strasbourg, on the development of the artificial larynx.
The Ceremony continued with the hearing of the various laureates. The winners of the 2016 Thesis Prizes of the Société de Biologie de Strasbourg are given below.
All the interventions highlighted the high quality of the science performed in Strasbourg. An important and positive message conveyed by many speakers concerned the importance and impact of Science for today’s society, and its essential role for the future development of our societies
